Led by guitarist/singer Antonio Smith, Congregacion were active between 1970-73, hailing from Santiago de Chile. With Alejandro Rodríguez on guitar/harmonica, Alberto Pradas on bass/guitar, Baltasar Villaseca on percussion/guitar and Carlos Vittini on flute/percussion they recorded one album and a single for the IRT label.”Congregacion viene…” (1972) circulated as a Prog Folk album among collectors, featuring a number of local musicians on cello, piano, bass and backing vocals, but it was only a hippie adaption of traditional Andean Folk with psychedelic effects and pastoral, anachronistic arrangements, based on mellow songwriting. This album is a set of mainly, soft, folky ballads with a South-American essence, performed on acoustic guitar, flute, bass and traditional percussions.
Smith later relocated to Argentina due to the unstable political circumastances in Chile, and recording with Chilean Folk heroes Los Jaivas and releasing a couple of personal albums. He then dedicated himself to spiritual New Age Music.
