“Junior Murvin got his start in the rock steady era, writing hits for Derrick Harriott and voicing underground tunes for Sonia Pottinger. A breakthrough failed to materialise, so he took stock for some years, refining his work to achieve international stardom in 1976 with Police And Thieves for Lee Perry. Though less familiar, Junior’s early-80’s efforts are worth investigating too, with ‘Muggers In The Street’ a prime example. Recorded for Junjo Lawes at Channel One with a gritty mix by Soljie, ‘Muggers’ tracks like Judas And Jesus and Jahovah’s Children are engaging spiritual works, while Stop The Crime calls for peace in the land.
