Description
First released in Jamaica on the Lion Of Judah label, this 1978 LP was recorded with the musicians of The Upsetters, plus the vocals and engineering, arrangement & production skills of Lee Perry at the legendary Black Ark studio, backing vocals by the all female singers of the Full Experience. “Roast Fish Collie Weed & Corn Bread” is the second chapter in the trilogy of albums in the period from 1976 – 1978 “Scratch The Super Ape” (aka “Super Ape”) and “Return Of The Super Ape”.
excerpt of notes from Reggae expert Jeremy Collingwood for the album:
“The album was full of Perry original compositions and featured his vocal talents across the album, along with fine backing from the Full Experience, Perry’s own trio of ‘African Daughters’. He shows how the voice can be an instrument as he sings, talks, raps and makes noises. The title track, a remixed version of the single originally issued on the Upsetters and Orchid imprints, represented the usual Perry mix of humour and serious issues, but the developing worrying state of his mind can be heard on “Evil Tongues”, as he sings ‘Evil Eyes and wicket heart, I saw them coming afar… The pressure was beginning to tell, but all Perry’s classic Ark sounds of deep bass, echoing and strange percussion, funky guitar, emoting sax and of course mooing sounds were present and correct”
