Description
It was in 1972 with magnum opus Carney, his third and most successful album, that Russell reached the upper rungs of the Billboard 200 (No. 2) and scored his first hit single, “Tight Rope.” A tale of two extremes, Carney is boldly split between soulful roots rock and exploratory psychedelia, and is home to further signature Russell fare like “Roller Derby” and “This Masquerade.” It’s cornerstone albums like this that helped lead to Russell’s induction into both the Rock & Roll Hall Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2011.
