The Viennese Samsara Joyride with their second longplayer, the first on Tonzonen. From the very beginning, the band focused on a fusion of the classic rock sound of the 70s and 90s, moving stylistically freely between blues, psych and stoner rock. Catchy, hypnotic riffs, interspersed with euphoric guitar solos and distinctive baritone vocals define the songs – a game between the tried and tested and the experimental, between repetitions and twists. In 2023, seven new tracks were forged, which are still recognizably founded in the style of the debut album, but clearly stand out in terms of complexity and experimentation. From the very first note, “The Subtle And The Dense” is not only much heavier and more progressive, but above all more self-confident. They experimented much more boldly with the use of background voices and vocal harmonies.

Where in the past there was still live improvisation, today you will find almost exclusively meticulously worked out lead guitar parts, which effortlessly switch between blues, metal and stoner rock. Andreas Mittermühlner’s sometimes whipping, sometimes powerful stomping, but always pinpoint drums and Daniel Batliner’s vibrating-grooving bass, which is anything but in the background, together form the backbone and pulse of the record, and thus offer the cutting highs of Haumer’s solo guitar foundation and framework for unfolding. The result is a big whole that sometimes sounds like Kyuss, sometimes like Danzig or Black Sabbath, sometimes even Tool or All Them Witches, but always like Samsara Joyride and as a complete work grows far beyond the sum of its parts.
