Description

“Let The Sun Shine In” recorded in Oakland in the early 70’s this album has become a hugely collectable item; packed with soul, funk and the title track, which is now a jazz dance classic. Appeals to fans of Oneness of Juju, early 1970s Roy Ayers, etc. Featured on the album is “Darkuman Junktion,” a downtempo funky nugget that appeared on the Luv n’ Haight compilation “Soulful.” Also included is the outrageously funky title track which became a jazz dance classic courtesy of heavy play by BBC Radio 1 DJ Gilles Peterson. The album makes for a solid listen beginnning-to-end appeals to fans of Oneness of Juju, early 1970s Roy Ayers, etc.
Included with the LP is a poster featuring pictures, handbills, and memorabilia from gigs played over 30 years ago. Back in the day the Sons and Daughters of Lite played alongside Sun Ra, Fela Kuti, Freddie Hubbard and Stanley Turrentine amongst others. Many members of the band enjoyed solo music careers and are still recording now. Original band leader Basuki Bala is currently a member of the Afro-Carribean Allstars, and percussionist Babatunde also recorded a new jazz record for Ubiquity. Trumpet player Marty Payne doubled up as a producer for the quintessential experimental jazz label, Strata East, and vocalist Aisha Kahlil.
