Nick Rattigan wordt nogal eens vergeleken met Tame Impala en Mac DeMarco in hun vroege dagen. Daarom is Current Joys misschien wel de garage-rock toegangspoort voor de tiener Tiktokkers. Zijn fans zijn allang niet meer alleen indie-liefhebbers. Op z\u2019n nieuwe plaat wordt de sentimentele rock \u2018n\u2019roll kakofonie overspoeld door een groots soundtrack-achtig orkest. Terwijl de stekeligheid van de songs, de gekwelde stem, de heesheid en zelfondervraging er alleen maar sterker op zijn geworden. \u2018Voyager\u2019 is dreigend, grimmig zelfs en gepassioneerd. Denk aan Bright Eyes, Nirvana, Pixies en The Cure. Opvallend: cover van \u2018Shivers\u2019 van Birthday Party voorloper Boys Next Door.
